Canberra five-eighth Jack Wighton was crowned winner of the NRL Dally M medal just hours after the result was accidentally reported in the media
The Daily Telegraph had published an article on its website earlier Monday evening revealing that Wighton had won the NRL’s highest individual honor
Daily Telegraph reporter Phil Rothfield admitted that the newspaper’s website published the result before it was officially announced
« Due to a production error that was beyond my control, the Daily Telegraph website accidentally posted the Dally M award winner ahead of tonight’s official announcement, » Rothfield wrote on Twitter

Wighton became the first Raider to win the Dally M Medal since Laurie Daley in 1995
He polled 26 votes in the 20 rounds of the minor premier to finish ahead of Clint Gutherson of Parramatta (25 votes) and Nathan Cleary of Penrith (24)
Other awards announced as part of the virtual ceremony included the NRLW’s Dally M Medal, which was awarded to Ali Brigginshaw of Brisbane
Ivan Cleary of Penrith was named Coach of the Year and Harry Grant of Wests Tigers was named Rookie of the Year
