World News – AU – Covid is on the rise across England as London posts record hospital numbers

Grim numbers at the start of the working week show that killer Covid-19 is on the rise in every corner of England.

As the British look to 2021 marked by the threat of a third national lockdown and multi-month crippling restrictions, the high number of patients burdening hospitals in the country’s hospitals has been disclosed today.

The capital has a record number of coronavirus patients on hospital beds – more than in the first wave of the grueling pandemic.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to announce stricter measures for England in a public address at 8 p.m..

Today’s figures, compiled by the Press Association, combine case data from Public Health England and hospital data from the NHS.

They show that case rates are rising and the number of patients with the virus in hospital in all parts of England.

The numbers come as the Scots slip into a new national lockdown for the rest of January today amid Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon pressure on UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson to act from outside the border.

Schools will be closed as part of the new Scottish policy – but they reopened for elementary school children in England on Monday.

Meanwhile, Johnson confirmed that further restrictions are on the way for England after a new line up to 54 in a day. 990 new cases.

Although Labor leader Keir Starmer is calling for a national lockdown today, Johnson refuses to reveal what he will actually announce – or when.

In the seven days until the 30th. December the rate was 934. 3 cases per 100. 000 people, out of 844. 3 of the previous week and 531. 5 two weeks ago.

Of the 25 highest local rates in England, 11 are in London. This includes Barking & Dagenham, which started with 1. 402 has the highest rate in England. 5) and Redbridge, which has the third highest rate (1st. 339. 7).

Hospitals in London have a record number of patients with Covid-19. A total of 3. 358 patients were on 3. January at 8 a.m. in the capital in the hospital.

All of London is on level 4 of the government’s Covid-19 alert (« stay at home »), with restrictions that include no blending of households and the closure of all non-essential businesses and operations.

It currently stands at 683. 7, of 587. 5 a week earlier and 376. 6 two weeks ago.

Six of the ten highest local rates in England are in this region, including Thurrock (1. 388). 7), Epping Forest (1. 302. 3) and Broxbourne (1,292. 2).

More patients with Covid-19 are in hospitals in the east of England than ever since the pandemic began.

The number was on 3. January at 8 a.m. at 3. 395, a 74% increase in just two weeks and well above the first wave high of 1. 679.

The trend here is similar to that in London and the east of England: a sharp rise in case rates and a record number of patients in the hospital.

The seven-day tariff for South East England is currently 609. 2 cases per 100. 000 people, from 504. 9 a week ago and 356. 0 two weeks ago.

Dartford has the highest rate in the region (1. 143). 8), followed by Gravesham (1. 094). 1) and Rushmoor (1. 088. 8th).

About 4. 501 patients with Covid-19 were on 3. January at 8 a.m. in the hospital, a 27% increase since last week and a 76% increase in two weeks.

Regional case rates are lower in all regions outside the south and east of England, but the numbers have increased in recent weeks.

In the West Midlands, the rate is currently 389. 9, of 278. 3 a week ago and 215. 3 two weeks earlier.

Wolverhampton has the highest rate in the region (626). 1), followed by Sandwell (557). 8) and Walsall (488. 0).

These areas are located in Tier 4 along with most of the West Midlands. Worcestershire and Shropshire are currently in Tier 3, although rates in these areas are now equivalent to Tier 4.

Regional hospital data for the West Midlands will be published in conjunction with the East Midlands. The total number of patients with Covid-19 in the Midlands was. January at 8 a.m. 4. 065. This is a record high and a jump of 16% from the previous week and 27% from two weeks ago.

The rate for the East Midlands is currently 325. 0 cases per 100. 000 people for the seven days up to and including. December, from 265. 8 the previous week and 214. 7 two weeks earlier.

Northampton has the highest rate in the region (559. 2) followed by South Northamptonshire (486). 8) and Ashfield (440). 1).

All of the East Midlands are in Tier 4, with the exception of Rutland which is in Tier 3 and whose rate is currently 215. 4th.

South West England has the second lowest rate of any region: 269. 9 cases per 100. 000 people. This is from 176. 3 in the previous week and 124. 0 two weeks ago.

Bournemouth Christchurch & Poole has the highest local rate in the region (434). 3) followed by Swindon (432). 1) and Gloucester (418. 2).

These three areas, along with most of Gloucestershire and Somerset, are in Tier 4. The rest of the region is in Tier 3, with the exception of the Isles of Scilly, which is in Tier 1.

Some Tier 3 areas such as Bristol, North Somerset and Wiltshire have higher rates than neighboring areas in Tier 4.

On 3. January at 8 a.m. were in the southwest of England 1. 323 patients in hospital with Covid-19 – a record number and a 20% increase in one week.

The number of new cases in the north west of England has risen sharply from 223. 1 for the week until 23. December to 351. 8 for the week up to 30. December.

The last time the rate was this high was in early November, just after the UK lockdown began.

These three areas are in Tier 4, along with all of North West England, with the exception of the Liverpool City Region which is in Tier 3.

However, three of the ten highest rates in the region are currently in the Liverpool City region: Halton (530). 9), Wirral (480). 8) and Knowsley (454. 1).

The number of hospital patients in the region is below the peak in mid-November (3rd. 158), but is 11% from 2. 226 on 27. December on 2. 605 on 3. January increased.

Hospital data for North East England is combined with the neighboring Yorkshire & the Humber.

In the entire region, the number of Covid-19 patients was on 3. January at 2. 710 – below the high of 3. 473 in mid-November, but by 11% compared to the previous week.

The rate here is the lowest for any region in England: 244. 3 cases per 100. 000 people, from 191. 1 in the previous week.

In York the rate is up from 218 the previous week. 9 to 428. 3 – the highest in the region.

The next higher is Richmondshire (of 178). 7 to 372. 2) followed by Hambleton (out of 241). 3 to 359. 2).

The hospital data is combined with the North East of England and shows that the total number of patients is still below the peak in mid-November.
