Friday’s training in Bahrain was full of drama, from big falls to stray dogs on the track.
When testing new Pirelli tires for the 2021 season, many drivers fought for speed and grip. In the second session, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen spun around in the final corner, but it was his teammate Alex Albon who suffered a monster shunt.

It was a day of inconsistent action, punctuated by red flags, when Alex Albon crashed his Red Bull and then a stray dog on the circuit.
Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton led the hours list in both sessions, while Max Verstappen came second in the latter session.
In FP2, his Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas was third in front of Sergio Perez from Racing Point, Daniel Ricciardo from Renault and Pierre Gasly from Alpha Tauri.
Lando Norris was seventh for McLaren ahead of Lance Stroll in second Racing Point, Daniil Kvyat in second Alpha Tauri and the hapless Albon, who is struggling to keep his Red Bull seat but crashed badly and destroyed his car.
His crash occurred in the middle of the second floodlit session at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir. The right side of his Red Bull car was badly damaged and both wheels only got caught on the lines.
Albon admitted that he pushed too hard when he ran away on the last corner and agreed with the universal drivers’ view of the new tires they tested.
« The prototype tires we used to start with – they’re not much fun to ride, so we’ll see how it goes next year . . . They are slow and not very grippy.
It got even stranger when the drivers returned to the track – only to be accompanied by a curious stray dog. This led to Ferrari’s hound singing the song « Who Let the Dogs Out? » Sang by Baha Men.
