Celebrity chef and conspiracy theorist Pete Evans has permanently removed his Facebook page after repeatedly violating his misinformation policy by posting about the coronavirus.

A Facebook company spokesperson said the platform does not allow anyone to share misinformation about COVID-19 that could lead to imminent physical harm, or misinformation about COVID-19 vaccines that has been exposed by public health experts.

« We have cleared guidelines for this type of content and removed Chef Pete Evans’ Facebook page for repeated violations of these guidelines, » the spokesman said in a statement on Wednesday.

Evans posted on Instagram Wednesday, telling his followers that he was « shut down » on Facebook « for a few days » because of his vaccine posts.

Evans has repeatedly made posts against COVID-19 vaccines and masks, claiming in a podcast that the coronavirus was a hoax.

Evans’ company was fined more than 25 by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) in April. $ 000 after promoting a device called « BioCharger » on a Facebook live stream, claiming it could be used in connection with the coronavirus.

Evans’ publisher ended his contract with him in November after using a neo-Nazi symbol on a Facebook post.

“Pan Macmillan does not endorse Pete Evans’ recent contributions. These views are not our views as a company or the views of our employees, ”the company said at the time.

Big W, Coles, Dymocks, Kmart, and Booktopia were among the retailers who stated that they would not sell their products after the mail.

Evans regularly uses the account to question official information about COVID-19, vaccines, and other pieces of mainstream science.

Posts where misinformation is exchanged but which does not violate Facebook’s guidelines are typically reduced in distribution rather than removed.
