An Australian family recently discovered an additional decoration hanging on their Christmas tree that you definitely cannot buy from your local Tesco.

An adorable koala had broken into the McCormick family home and climbed the tree, obviously not wanting to miss the festivities. I’m sure an angel is beating up in the tree, if you ask me.

The cute story on Facebook shared the Adelaide and Hills Koala Rescue Group, which was called in to retrieve the furry guy after he saw him on Wednesday night, Jan.. December, was found.

Our hotline operator took a call this evening. At first she thought she was the victim of a prank phone call. But no, a koala desperate to get in the Christmas mood had wandered into Amanda McCormick’s house and decided it wanted to be the fairy on the Christmas tree.

Amanda wasn’t so sure and called 1300KOALAZ for help. Many thanks to Amanda for the great pictures and for making this little koala come true, even if it was only for a short time.

Speaking to 9 News, one of the rescuers said it wasn’t uncommon for koalas to end up in strange places, but it was a first for them to find one on a Christmas tree.

They said, “Koalas are very curious beings and they will investigate when the opportunity presents itself. We have rescued koalas in chicken coops, bathrooms, open inspections, strollers, bikes, brooms and toy cars, but a Christmas tree is a first for us. ‘

The description for the Adelaide and Hills Koala Rescue Group, which, according to Facebook, is made up entirely of volunteers, reads: “We practice the rescue, rehabilitation and release of sick, injured and orphaned koalas as far as possible. These are cared for in our own homes, as we use the donations given to us in the best possible way to help needy koalas instead of paying rent, mortgage or electricity bills. ‘

This koala isn’t the first animal to be found hidden in a Christmas tree recently. Last month, a little owl was discovered in a large tree on its way to New York’s Rockefeller Center.

The tree was being transported to New York City by Oneonta when, upon arriving in town, one of the people moving the tree noticed the little bird was in its branches.

Later named Rockefeller, the owl was rescued by the Ravensbeard Wildlife Center and has since been released back into the wild.
