World News – AU – Fantastic Four Movie Confirmed for MCU, Plus « Black Panther 2 » won’t cast Chadwick Boseman again

. . Today's massive Investor Day call wrapped up its creative part with a slew of MCU news including some big surprises, massive affirmations, and a replay of the importance of the theater.

. .

The term of the day was « forward-looking, » and during the Walt Disney Company’s Investor Day 2020 webcast on Thursday afternoon, this look looked so ahead but still had plenty of fresh Marvel-centric content. Marvel chief executive Kevin Feige, who completed the massive four-hour call, used his time to promote the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which still features a wide variety of feature films and a number of upcoming series that go straight to Disney .

Biggest news: Marvel is working on a long-hyped and brand new feature film, Fantastic Four, to be directed by Jon Watts, the filmmaker of Spider-Man. While Feige announced that Black Panther II is still in the works by filmmaker Ryan Coogler, they won’t re-cast the title role of the late, beloved Chadwick Boseman.

While many expected that Feige would announce that one or more MCU films were going to Disney, it wasn’t. Instead, the often pushed back film « Black Widow » will open on the last release date and not until 7. May 2021 in cinemas. Other MCU features are also sticking to their last announced theatrical releases, including « Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings » (Sept.. July 2021), « Eternals » (5. November 2021) and « Doctor Strange in the Multiversum des Wahnsinns » (25. March 2022).

Feige also confirmed that a trio of other MCU films will go into production in the coming months, including Taika Waititi’s « Thor: Liebe und Donner » (with Christian Bale as the villain), the next « Guardians of the Galaxy » – Feature and another « Ant-Man and the Wasp » feature.

Today’s marathon investor appeal was against the last few days of a difficult year. Entertainment companies like Disney and its subsidiaries have felt the crisis on all sides as numerous release dates for expected projects have been pushed back (and back and back) and back), many domestic theaters remain closed, and a number of potential blockbusters have meanwhile migrated to Streaming services completed.

But while other competitors, particularly Warner Bros. . and its own DCEU franchise have opted for different release strategies for their biggest offerings – like Patty Jenkins’ « Wonder Woman 1984, » which moved on the calendar several times before finally settling for a joint streaming deal between the theater and HBO Max that got around Hollywood – Disney has stuck to its plans for its own superhero series.

While other Disney films, including the much-lauded Pixar offering “Soul” and the upcoming “Pinocchio” and “Peter Pan and Wendy,” have opted for Disney releases (the latter two weren’t announced until today’s call ), The Marvel Properties have stayed away from streaming premieres of any kind.

That’s not to say the Golden Goose Marvel franchise has been immune to these effects for the past several months. Given how neatly Marvel is building its ever-expanding movie universe, one move – an early March push for Cate Shortland’s « Black Widow, » one of the first major films to abandon its original release date due to the pandemic – inevitably meant more dominoes Were present fall. While Marvel and Disney Brass were likely looking forward to another bonanza year at the box office, the continued release dates have put a strain on 2021 and beyond delivering the goods.

In September Disney and Marvel finally set a new date for « Black Widow », which postponed the start of the fourth phase of the MCU for a full year. Others followed, including « Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings » and « Eternal, » which were moved from their scheduled release dates to fresh homes far from Marvel’s original plans.

Marvel kept working amid the pandemic, and « Eternals » has completed scheduled re-shoots in the past few weeks as television series such as « WandaVision » and « The Falcon and the Winter Solider » continued to film to meet their goals planned Disney release dates. These series will appear on the Streamer in 2021, with « WandaVision » on 15. January on Disney and « The Falcon and the Winter Soldier » on 19. March appears. Today’s announcement also included new messages on series such as Loki, Hawkeye, She-Hulk, Moon Knight and Ms. . Marvel ”, which you can read all about here.
