A fire threatening a housing estate in Melbourne’s western suburbs was brought under control after residents were told to leave their homes.

The CFA issued an emergency alert to those living in Mount Cottrell, Truganina and Chartwell, 14 miles west of Melbourne’s CBD, at 6 a.m.. 8pm said a nearby fire stayed out of control.

The fire was brought under control at 8 a.m.. At 8 p.m. on Monday evening, a CFA spokeswoman said more than 50 crews had been called in to contain the grass fire.

« You are not currently at risk, but you should stay tuned and monitor conditions, » VicEmergency told residents near the fire site.

Locals at Rockbank, Tarneit, and Ravenhall were told to monitor conditions in case circumstances should change even though they were not threatened by the fire.

VicEmergency said there were previous concerns that homes in Chartwell Estate « could be affected anytime within the hour ». .

« Firefighters have been unable to stop the fire and it is moving towards the Chartwell Estate, » VicEmergency said in a previous online update.

« Leaving now is the safest option before conditions get too dangerous. . . Emergency services may not be able to help you if you decide to stay.

The fire was only 200 to 300 meters long at 5. 3 p.m., but has probably grown « significantly » since then, according to a CFA spokesperson.

Residents near the fire protection zone have been asked to bring their pets, medication, cell phone, and charger with them when moving to a safe area with family or friends.

When people could not leave their homes, the CFA recommended closing all exterior doors, windows, and vents, turning off cooling systems, and sheltering in a room with multiple exits and views so that outside conditions can be monitored.

« If your home catches fire and conditions inside become unbearable, you need to get out and go to an area that has already been burned, » VicEmergency said Monday night.

Those who live in Mount Cottrell, Truganina and Chartwell can visit www. emergency. vic. government. Au for live updates, expected with the next notification message at 8. 30 o’clock.
