Wagga Wagga City Council starts Australian Food Safety Week 2020 by urging residents to practice washing hands well when handling food.

Council’s Environmental Health Coordinator, Charomi Dayanand, said she hopes to increase focus this year on handwashing, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, to remind people of the importance of having clean hands when handling food..

“Knowing how to handle food safely is an essential skill in life, especially when thinking about 4. « One million food poisoning cases a year in Australia, » said Ms. Dayanand.

“Hand washing is one of the most important activities we can do in the kitchen to prevent food poisoning when preparing meals for ourselves and our loved ones..

To prevent the spread of germs between raw meat, seafood, fish or poultry, and ready-to-eat foods such as cooked meats, sweets and salads, Ms. Dianand said it is important to wash hands and clean utensils and surfaces that come in contact with foods thoroughly between preparing food.

« It is an easy habit to adopt and will help prevent the spread of germs in the kitchen, » said Ms. Dayanand..

Keeping your food safe: As part of Australian Food Safety Week 2020, environmental health officials Ovendo Warnakulasuria and Geoff Lang, together with Environmental Health Coordinator Shaumi Dayanand, are answering community questions about safe handling of food.

Council environmental health officials set up an information booth inside the Civic Center arcade during Australian Food Safety Week 2020, which runs from 14 to 21 November, and are ready to answer all your questions about food safety.
