The American auto giant General Motors plans to recall more than 68,000 Chevrolet Bolt electric cars due to the possibility of fires in batteries.
General Motors, along with the United States’ National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), announced last week that it would issue a recall notice for 68,667 Chevrolet Bolt EVs of choice for 2017-2019 with high-voltage batteries produced at LG’s Chem in Ochang, Korea.
The concern is that there is a risk of fire when the batteries are charged to full capacity or close to full capacity.
Concerns arose after GM discovered five confirmed incidents of battery fires in a Chevy Bolt EV when the batteries were either fully or nearly fully charged. Three of those five incidents were highlighted in October by the NHTSA, but it appears that all five reports were under investigation by GM..
