Ginny Weds Sunny, starring Yami Gautam and Vikrant Massey is now streaming on Netflix and the only question I have after watching it is: what were the makers thinking? Because in the mind of you, Ginny Weds Sunny’s plot is obnoxiously boring (if it can even be called a plot), the dialogue is supremely predictable, and the musical scores end up being unnecessary and inappropriately placed. trying to look past its shortcomings and just watch the movie for the audience’s favorite actors who make up for a pretty stellar cast, but even their performances seem to be negatively affected by the unimaginative storytelling On top of that, the script triumphantly glorifies the harassment and emotional manipulation by parents to marry their children, making Ginny Weds Sunny an atrocious 123-minute watch.
The film is directed by Puneet Khanna and produced by Vinod Bachchan It stars a range of refined actors including Yami Gautam, Vikrant Massey, Ayesha Raza, Rajiv Gupta, Maneka Kurup Arora, Karan Singh Chhabra, Suhail Nayyar and many others Earlier this year, the film’s theatrical release had to be canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The film’s soundtrack is composed by Payal Dev, Gaurav Chatterji and Jaan Nissar Lone

On the one hand, we’re introduced to a Sima Taparia (Ayesha Raza) inspired mother who is determined to find her daughter Ginny (Yami Gautam) a potential match Ginny, as we’re told, still has feelings for her ex Nishant (Suhail Nayyar) and she doesn’t give two hoots at her mother’s pleas to look for a groom But comes the « farz » to the family, and sprinkled with a bit of emotional blackmail, it turns our independent protagonist into a gentle bird who doesn’t have much voice.
On the other hand, it was Pappi Sethi (Rajiv Gupta) who promised his son Sunny (Vikrant Massey) that he would help him establish his dream restaurant if Sunny agrees to marry Another form of emotional manipulation starts, but that doesn’t really become a problem since Sunny falls head over heels in love with Ginny, the girl his father chose for him, the very first time he sees her. Then begins Sunny’s courtesan with Ginny, which ranges from non-consensual acts of stalking to constant stalking. That’s right, it’s 2020 and Sunny follows Ginny endlessly thinking that’s what courting means: appearing in subway stations every day, offering car rides, and even showing up at the girl’s house. which is even more frustrating that Ginny makes fun of everything
Fast forward to unbearably insignificant twists, a few disorganized dance numbers, and too many Punjabi family stereotypes, we finally get to see what the title originally promised us, of Ginny marrying Sunny and making you feel happy or not during the festivities, rest assured that by the time the wedding takes place you will be delighted to realize that the movie is finally over Yes, this is such a tedious watch
It is truly heartbreaking to see such talent go to waste just because of a confusing movie poorly done
Yami Gautam and Vikrant Massey have proven their artistic form time and time again, but their attempts to make the characters relatable fall flat this time around. And frankly, we feel less the flaw of the actors and more the fault of the uninteresting character arcs that are given to Ginny and Sunny.Even seasoned actors like Ayesha Raza and Rajiv Gupta fail to illuminate the screen to their fullest potential
For a film whose title itself leaves no room for ambiguity, no one expected an Agatha Christie mystery anyway. But the family dramas around arranged marriages can be both entertaining. and educational, as we have learned from people like Shubh Mangal Savdhan Ginny Weds Sunny lacks both humor and tact, and hence this marriage is one you better skip
