The third-placed team (12 points) is the only undefeated team in the league, is at the top of most goals scored (11) and has won the last two games. But ATKMB, second in the competition (13 points), are arguably the hardest team to break (only conceding three goals) and have rediscovered their winning spirit against FC Goa after a slip up against Jamshedpur FC and Hyderabad FC.

« I think it will be a very physical challenge, » said BFC coach Carles Cuadrat on the eve of the game. “They (ATKMB) are tough, [with] big bodies, and play a high-paced game. They saw how they played against Goa and took advantage of counter attacks and open spaces. ”

“So it will be such a game with two compact teams and not much that happens in attack. These types of games are usually controlled by the defenders and it will be small details that will determine the game. ”

ATKMB has proven itself to be skillful in the competition against Goa and denied its opponent the space and time to get into a free flowing rhythm. The role of Irish defensive midfielder Carl McHugh was central to this. BFC, although known for their defensive organization, have been shaky in the recent past, conceding five goals in their last three games.

But ATKMB trainer Antonio Habas insisted that his wards had no discernible advantage. « This season the teams are more balanced and it is very difficult for all teams to keep winning, » said the Spaniard. « The reality is that the teams are closer, with little difference [also in points]. ”

So it seems like a perfect backdrop for individual magic and there is no need to look any further than Sunil Chhetri and Roy Krishna for potential heroes. Chhetri has scored three goals so far and has made a good combination with striker Cleiton Silva, who has been absent since Miku left the club after the 2018/19 season.

Ashique Kuruniyan’s momentum on the left was also crucial, but BFC have to do without it after the Indian winger underwent surgery to repair the multiple fractures he suffered in Thursday’s win against Odisha FC suffered in the face.

The Indian Super League (ISL 2020-21) marks the return of major league competition in India after the nationwide lockdown to prevent the COVID-19 outbreak was first imposed in March.

The seventh edition of the ISL began on May 20. November in a bio-bubble in Goa.

During the four-month tournament, 11 teams will play against each other in a league and playoff format at three venues. With the addition of SC East Bengal, 115 games will be played this season, up from 95 last season.
