The Indian Super League (ISL 2020-21) marks the return of major league competition in India following the nationwide lockdown to keep the COVID-19 outbreak from first imposing in March.

The seventh edition of the ISL began on May 20. November in a bio-bubble in Goa.

During the four-month tournament, 11 teams will play against each other in a league and playoff format at three venues. After the addition of SC East Bengal, 115 games have been played this season, up from 95 last season.

SC East Bengal will be looking for the first points after making their Indian Super League debut when they host FC Jamshedpur on Thursday at the Tilak Maidan Stadium in Vasco. For acclaimed East Bengal coach Robbie Fowler, the current challenge is to keep his side from their fourth straight defeat. This in itself would mean that the red and gold team will take the first point of the tournament after setbacks against ATK Mohun Bagan, Mumbai City FC and North East United FC.

The team conceded seven goals without scoring a single, and that is Fowler’s concern. It’s about finding the right combination and form to break the opponent’s defenses. East Bengal created opportunities but their shootout was the big problem.

As can be seen from the statistics, the team has a shooting accuracy of only 20. 51 percent, as it only made 17 shots from the penalty area (second lowest in the league). “It’s not always about the strikers. We need others to achieve the goals. I would be more concerned if the players didn’t have a chance. We create opportunities, ”Fowler tried to pick out the positive aspects.

Fowler knows the task will be big when his side take on Jamshedpur, driven by star striker Nerijus Valskis (five goals in four games). . In addition, the services of Danny Fox, Loken Meitei and Aaron Amadi-Holloway are missing in East Bengal due to injuries. Fowler found before the game that they are still not active enough.

Jamshedpur FC, who beat ATK Mohun Bagan 2-1 to take their first tournament win in their previous game, are very confident. Jamshedpur FC’s Scottish coach Owen Coyle hopes his team is ready to meet the other Kolkata giants. “It’s going to be a tough game against ATK and we have to make sure we’re ready for it. They (East Bengal) are very dangerous opponents, ”said Coyle. This is his team’s fifth game in 15 days.
