. .

WHILE leading coach Caspar Fownes can’t stop saddling winners in Hong Kong – he celebrated his 500th last week. Happy Valley Winner – um The other end of the spectrum, legendary handler David Hayes has made an overwhelming start to his second career move in the area.

The former HK master coach and Melbourne Cup winner has only saddled seven winners since returning from a twenty-year hiatus in Australia.

With a stable full of mostly young, inexperienced, or inexperienced teenagers, Hayes had to be the most patient, while rivals like Fownes, Frankie Lor, and Tony Cruz periodically saddled winners.

However, in the past few weeks there have been signs that the stable is now starting to send out its heavy artillery, particularly the exciting Harmony N Blessed and then Super Axiom, who put their rivals to work in Sha Tin last Sunday.

For the next few months, the weathers should keep an eye on all of Hayes’ unridered gallops, and it’s a confident prediction that the stable will soon climb the coaching ladder.

Hayes sends a few runners down into the valley on Wednesday, including New Zealand importer LITTLE PLAYER, who competes in the Gloucester Handicap (12). 45 p.m.) over six furlongs.

This well mannered four year old recently made an encouraging debut in fourth over the five furlongs in Sha Tin.

With a good draw in his favor and the prospect of improving himself for a step further into the distance, he will be hard to beat.
