Joining the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is very different from joining a political party here or in any other democracy. It could be closer to joining a criminal family in the New York Mafia.

Members must swear that they have tremendous loyalty to the one party that has ruled China since the 1940s.

You must pledge to « keep party secrets », « fight for communism all your life » and be ready at all times to « sacrifice my best for the party ». . The oath is lifelong and is sworn in the presence of party officials. Quick, severe punishment would result if they ever dared to break it.

Belonging to the party is not a mere formality. The CCP demands secrecy, cunning and absolutely ruthless discipline from its millions of members. Known to be secret, his authority is absolute.

Joining the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is very different from joining a political party here or in any other democracy. It could be closer to joining a criminal family in the New York Mafia. Members must swear that they show supreme loyalty to the one party that has ruled China since the 1940s.

Democracy and freedom, for example, are such existential threats that violence and oppression are necessary to suppress them. Western nations like Britain are involved in a deadly conflict with China and must be defeated.

It is a party whose belief in religious minorities brings us to the racist politics of the worst dictators of the 20th century. Century.

The CCP sees nothing wrong with rounding up Uighur Muslims, putting them on trains and taking them to « re-education camps » where women can be sterilized and men can be forced into forced labor.

Every single member has subscribed to all of this and more – extracting organs from religious minorities, imprisoning lawyers, smashing the spirit of their own people. In Xi Jinping’s Chinese Communist Party, there is little room for divergence in political thinking.

The CCP sees nothing wrong with rounding up Uyghur Muslims, putting them on trains and taking them to « re-education camps » where women can be sterilized and men can be forced to do hard labor. It would be bad enough if these people were confined to China, where they hold political power like a vice.

However, Sunday’s investigation by The Mail shows that the CCP’s influence is spreading around the world, with members working for some of the world’s most important multinational corporations, academic institutions, and even our own diplomatic services.

Much of their diffusion in the UK took place as part of the so-called Golden Era, or the Kow Tow Project, as I prefer to call it. Britain welcomed China, wrongly believing that China was opening up its economy and that Chinese investment would bring Britain welcome growth, investment and prosperity.

It is therefore not surprising that the City of London giants Standard Chartered, KPMG and Ernst & Young have each hired several hundred CCP members in several offices in China.

And it’s even less surprising that HSBC tops the shameful list of companies willing to obey the Chinese Communist Party’s rules. HSBC likes to criticize Brexit for its perceived paucity. Advertisements in the UK read: « We are not an island. « .

His own behavior, however, speaks volumes. Last week there was a hurry to freeze the bank accounts of exiled Hong Kong lawmaker Ted Hui. At the beginning of the summer, she made statements denouncing the democracy protests.

Now we learn that it appears that once more than 300 members were employed by the party that orchestrated the draconian crackdown in Hong Kong. Time and again, HSBC has proven to be Beijing’s favorite bank.

None of this would be remarkable in a Chinese institution, but it is inexcusable for a UK bank regulated and headquartered here in London.

Sunday’s mail shows that the CCP’s influence is spreading around the world, with members working for some of the world’s most important multinational corporations, academic institutions, and even our own diplomatic services. HSBC tops the shameful ranking of companies willing to obey the Chinese Communist Party’s rules.

We can only hope this leak confirms the truth that businesses around the world are starting to dawn. Operating in China has built-in ethical and reputational risk. We already know that household stamps have been linked to slave labor by Uighur prisoners in the Xinjiang area.

When will rich multinationals decide that it is no longer worth the damage to their brand?

Incidentally, the threat affects not only their corporate image or our moral standing as a nation, but also our security. Companies like Boeing, Airbus, Thales and Rolls-Royce each play an essential role in the manufacture of the equipment used by our armed forces.

They make some of our most advanced weapons and protect top secret designs for our most sensitive assets and facilities. However, together they employ hundreds of Chinese communists who have pledged to serve the party above all else.

Other major companies such as Pfizer, AstraZeneca and GlaxoSmithKline employ hundreds of Communist Party members and give them access to networks, designs and supply chains.

Then there is the question of academics in Britain, some of whom are some of the most sensitive subjects in our universities.

In recent years, we have come to understand that China is systematically targeting and stealing academic technology.

Most disturbing is the discovery that this scourge extends to our own Foreign Office.

Applicants to the FO are rightly among the best screened in the government. The staff of our consulates and embassies will see and discuss state affairs.

You are rightly considered one of the most useful potential « assets » by foreign intelligence agencies. Even the anodyne information can have implications for national security.

Therefore, the Foreign Office must explain to the public and Parliament what it is like that we have employed lifelong members of the Chinese Communist Party in one of the most sensitive institutions in the British diplomatic network, the consulate in Shanghai.

There is an urgent need to investigate what access this person – and other members of the Communist Party – had.

I believe the government must now try to expel and remove all Communist Party members from our consulates in China. You can serve the UK or the CCP. You can’t do both.

We did not realize that the core of the Chinese system is a system of ideas and values that not only contradicts ours, but tries to overcome it. The interests of the Communist Party come first.

It’s not that China tried to hide this reality, but that we in the free world have been willing to turn a blind eye for so long.

So it’s no wonder that Xi Jinping openly states that China will have the most powerful armed forces in the world by 2049.

Today’s question is: To what extent have our institutions and big business helped him achieve his goal?
