ARMONK, N. . Y. . , Dec. . Feb. 2, 2020 / PRNewswire / – IBM (NYSE: IBM) announced that Gartner has positioned IBM as a leader in its newly published 2020 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Cloud Database Management Systems (DBMS). . The company explored IBM’s range of database management solutions, including IBM Db2 on Cloud, which has AI-powered capabilities that organizations can use to modernize the way they manage structured and unstructured data in hybrid cloud environments.
« Because this is the first edition of the Magic Quadrant for Cloud Database Management Systems, we cannot compare previous years or market shifts for any particular vendor, » the report said. « However, we can say that the shift in the DBMS market towards the cloud has opened up many opportunities for DBMS providers to innovate, particularly for public and private clouds, and in some cases hybrid clouds. This focus also provides end-user organizations with the option to either migrate to the cloud or use the cloud as a platform for new applications. «
« Any AI project is accelerated or hindered by the breadth, depth, and accessibility of trusted data, » said Daniel Hernandez, general manager, Data and AI, IBM. « With Db2 and its availability in Cloud Pak for Data, we deliver what our customers need to provide data to work with AI. It’s great to see Gartner realizing our vision and implementation in this market. «
Db2 runs on IBM Cloud Pak for Data, IBM’s fully integrated data and AI platform that enables organizations to modernize the way they collect, organize, and analyze data to infuse AI. The cloud-native solution runs on Red Hat OpenShift, the leading platform for enterprise containers, and is intended to enable companies to easily add new functions for data management, DataOps, governance, business analysis and AI.
« We have used Db2 Warehouse on Cloud for the past several years to provide better analysis and deeper insight into how our programs are promoted and planned, and to reach potential viewers across a variety of platforms, » said Vitaly Tsivin, Executive Vice President of Business Intelligence for AMC Networks. “The ability for us to do integrated analysis of Db2 across our vast landscape of public and private clouds has enabled us to bring machine learning to many more areas of our business. «
The report identified IBM’s integration of Db2 with Cloud Pak for Data as a strength. « With its own cloud platform, IBM is aggressively pursuing a portfolio of partner offerings as extensive as those of other leading companies such as AWS, Microsoft and Google, » the report said. « In addition, the hybrid, regulated Cloud Pak for Data gives customers choice by enabling them to deliver IBM’s offerings on these vendors’ platforms. His bold move to acquire Red Hat also reflects a focus on groundbreaking moves. «
Gartner also noted the integration of AI and hybrid cloud capabilities from IBM into the Db2 cloud. « IBM Db2 on Cloud extends traditional transactions with in-database machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) running on its engine, » the report said. « Db2 on Cloud recognizes multi-model trends with support for graphic and spatial analysis and offers a sophisticated, integrated workload management for the automatic management of job planning and parallelism. Additional offers from IBM and other providers expand the possibilities for special requirements. «
For the report, Gartner examined IBM’s database management systems, including IBM Db2 in the cloud, IBM Db2 Warehouse in the cloud, IBM Cloud SQL query, IBM Cloudant, the IBM Cloud family of databases, and IBM Event Streams. IBM Cloud Pak for Data, an integrated data and AI platform, is a Red Hat OpenShift integration layer for containerized DBMS services.
The solutions from IBM include managed services for PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Redis, RabbitMQ, DataStax, EDB and more. IBM’s multicloud support includes the provision of AWS, Microsoft (Azure), Google Cloud, IBM Cloud and Private Cloud (most offerings are also available locally). .
