LAHORE: Wasim Khan, CEO of the Pakistan Cricket Board, believes the ICC World T20 could be relocated to the UAE next year as « an element of uncertainty ». It remains to be seen whether India would be able to host the event due to the COVID-19 pandemic. « There is still some uncertainty that the World T20 will be held in India . . . yes, due to the situation there in Covid. It could be in the UAE, « Khan said in an interview with Cricket Baaz’s YouTube channel.
Recalling that India had planned to host a home series against England in the first quarter of 2021 and also against the Indian Premier League, Khan said a clear picture would not come until April.
The ICC has awarded India the 2021 World T20, and Australia will now host the 2022 edition. The 50-Over World Championship is also scheduled to take place in India in 2023.
Khan also reiterated that the circuit board was waiting until January for written confirmation from the ICC and the BCCI that visas would be issued to the Pakistani squad for the World T20 in India. « Yes, Mani Sahab (PCB Manager, Ehsan Mani) wrote to you asking that, given the state of relations between India and Pakistan, it would be best for the ICC and BCCI to provide written assurance that visas would be issued give us. « Said Khan.
