Sky and Discovery have renewed their partnership in New Zealand with a multi-year contract that will roll out Investigation Discovery (ID) in the US and land on the Sky pay-TV platform in 2021.
In addition to the launch of ID in early 2021, the agreement includes the other Discovery brands Discovery Channel, TLC, Discovery Turbo, Living, Food Network and Animal Planet.
US True Crime Channel ID explores the darker side of human nature and will kick off Down Under with shows like Serial Killer: Devil Unchained, In Pursuit with John Walsh, and franchise ID Murder Mystery.
The deal also means Sky will continue to release Discovery fact titles like Aussie Gold Hunters, Gold Rush, Deadliest Catch, Fast N’Loud and the annual Shark Week.
In addition, the contract includes expanded VoD rights for Sky Go, Sky On Demand and the Sky SVoD service Neon, so that thousands of hours of fact and lifestyle programming are available on request.
After Discovery unveiled Discovery global streaming service last week, which will roll out in 25 countries including parts of Asia in 2021.
Sophie Moloney, Sky New Zealand CEO, said, “We know our customers love Discovery’s premium program and we are excited to continue our 26-year partnership with a renewed contract tailored to the needs of our Customers and the content landscape in New Zealand. ”
Rebecca Kent, General Manager of Discovery Australia and New Zealand, said, “With the appetite for real crime stories growing, we look forward to launching the acclaimed real crime channel Investigation Discovery for Sky customers early next year. ”
