In another interesting week the Big 3 couldn’t dominate as before and suffered defeats We take a look at trends and patterns as well as which players and teams have stood out this week of IPL 2020

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is not in the race for a playoff spot in the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) – this is the big news from the tournament this week This is the first time in the history of the IPL that the three former champions did not qualify for the playoffs! CSK have only won 4 of their 12 matches in the tournament so far and have been mathematically ruled out of a chance to make it to the next stage

In another interesting week, the Big 3 couldn’t dominate as before and suffered defeats We take a look at the trends and patterns as well as the players and teams that stood out this week of IPL 2020

CSK had a tournament nightmare in IPL 2020 With up to 8 defeats in 12 matches, they cannot make the playoffs this year, not even mathematically! They become the first team to be eliminated this year CSK had finished in the top 4 in each of the previous editions of the IPL in which it had participated and had always won more than 50% of its matches in each edition But it all fell apart in IPL 2020 Former three-time champions and most successful IPL team in terms of winning percentage languish at 8th in the points table

The Big 3 – Mumbai Indians (MI), Delhi Capitals (DC) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were expected to continue their dominance and win this 8th game this week which would confirm their place in the playoffs But, instead all suffered a surprise loss / defeat – MI was beaten by the Royals (RR), DC by Kings XI and KKR and RCB by CSK As a result, neither team has yet been able to separate and advance to the playoffs

The teams in the bottom half staged lively retorts this week Kings XI was the team of the week with 2 wins in 2 games – they have now won four games in a row RR was the other successful team with wins over CSK and MI – they won two of their three games this week

Goal-chasing teams have won 7 of 9 games this week, reinforcing last week’s trend where 4 of 6 games were won by the second batting team This is a complete reversal of the previous trend of the first three weeks when 19 of the 26 straight results games (7308%) were won by the batting team first Overall, out of the 41 outright results of the IPL 2020, 18 were won by the chasing team and 23 by the batting team first

The draw turned out to be unlucky this week, with the team that won the draw losing 7 of 9 games In total, the team that won the draw has now lost 31 games (6888% ) and won only 14 of 45 IPL 2020 games

One of the main reasons the second batting team won 7 of 9 games this week was the average score of the first batting team There was a huge drop in the target set and it went from an average of 171 the week before to 145 this week, a drop of 26 races! There have been up to 5 first bat scores below 150 this week Bowlers seem to have found their mojo after a tough first half of the tournament where huge first-innings scores were consistently achieved – which didn’t was not characteristic of the usually slow terrains of the UAE Wicket wear now also benefits spinners, making it harder to score races

Ben Stokes had the second worst hit rate among all batsmen with a minimum of 100 points in the tournament until the game against MI in Abu Dhabi But when RR needed him the most, he fired And as How? ‘Or’ What! Stokes beat 107 unbeaten in just 60 deliveries to help RR chase a stiff 196 against the tournament’s best bowling unit – like Bumrah, Boult, Pattinson and Rahul Chahar – a big blow under pressure that keeps RR’s playoff hopes alive eliminatory

The big bowling performance of the week came from mysterious KKR spinner Varun Chakravarthy as he played DC batsmen with his variations coming back with 5-20 in his 4 overs – the second best tricks in bowling for a KKR bowler in their IPL story! The performance took place against the backdrop of one of KKR’s worst batting displays in an IPL game – they were capped at 84 for 8 in their previous meeting against RCB and needed a bit of magic to straighten out their fortune falling in the tournament
