This will be the first time Kecmanovic and Norrie, ranked 41st, whose career-best ranking was 41st, will face each other in a competition

Well, to be honest it can hardly be called a losing streak when you lose two in a row, but for a player who had just won an ATP 250 title before that it surely would have felt like this. Kecmanovic was the winner of the Kitzbühel Open and is said to have competed in both, the Rome Masters and the French Open knowing he had solid form behind his back

And yet he lost in the first round in both If the defeat at the French Open to Diego Schwartzman could be attributed to the luck of the draw, Kecmanovic would have been particularly disappointed with his performance in Rome where he hadn’t had the most difficult draw even before the semi-final

The good news, however, is that Kecmanovic was back at his best, winning 6-3, 7-6 over Mikhail Kukushkin, a delicate opponent in his own right. This follows the Serbian having reached the New York Open semi-final in the first phase of the season, a tournament also played indoors

Much like Kecmanovic, Norrie had also entered this tournament after losing two consecutive games, but unlike his opponent, these losses did not surprise too much After all, Norrie isn’t much of a clay runner and while three losses in his last four games would hurt him, they were all on red soil which made her slightly more bearable for the Briton

That’s why Norrie started at 2/1 in her opener against Taylor Fritz, who likes to play on hard ground but still managed three sets of fight.

The thing to remember here is that Norrie trained a lot on the indoor courts during the pandemic lockdown. He competed in two tournaments on indoor hard courts, both courtesy of the Battle of the British, and won seven of the nine matches he played there

Although some of them ran into fellow Britons far below him, it would have given him the necessary feeling of conditions that others did not have

Norrie has 6/4 to win but we think he might still have a chance, at least push the match into a third
