Police have shot and killed an alleged armed pedestrian on the Logan Highway, which has resulted in the closure of the east-facing lanes, which is expected to result in « extensive » delays during morning rush hour.

Emergency services were called onto the motorway in Drewvale on the edge of Brisbane’s south side just after 6 a.m. on Thursday.

Police have confirmed officers responded to calls regarding a traffic hazard when they were allegedly confronted by an armed man who was alone and on foot.

A police spokesman said the incident resulted in a « nightmare » in traffic with the area cordoned off for an investigation into the ongoing incident to begin.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed that paramedics were in Drewvale around 6:00 a.m.. 3pm.

Police have asked motorists heading east to find alternative routes to the Logan Highway, with the highway lanes expected to remain closed for an extended period of time.

Last Thursday the 10th. December, a 28-year-old man was shot dead in the buttocks by police officers after he and another man allegedly attempted armed robbery in Brisbane and Logan.

On Sunday the 1st. November, the special police shot an allegedly armed man in the leg after a break of almost nine hours in Ipswich. The man was hiding in a shed on a property.

On Wednesday the 26th. A 27-year-old man was shot dead by police after confronting officers with knives in a house in Dakabin, north of Brisbane.
