World News – AU – Melbourne Clubs Rule Out Bogut Signing

. .

Melbourne United and South East Melbourne Phoenix have ruled out signing Australian star Andrew Bogut for the upcoming NBL season.

The NBA title winner and Boomers Center are ready to keep fans updated on his gaming future on Tuesday morning, but both Melbourne NBL clubs and Brisbane Bullets told The Age on Monday that they were Bogut who has spent the last two seasons with the Sydney Kings playing 59 games.

« Wherever Andrew plays, they’re lucky to have him, as are the Sydney Kings, » he said.

Bogut has spent the pandemic with his young family, pondering whether to keep playing and chasing a medal or retiring at the postponed Tokyo Olympics in 2021. A back injury worried him for much of the last NBL season.

Bogut tweeted on Monday that he would announce where he will sign on his new podcast Rogue Bogues next season. However, NBL sources were unaware of Bogut’s signing with anyone on Monday.

The Kings have the Daniel Kickert and Jordan Hunter centers on their list, but they also have an import seat that could be used for a launch center.

The Kings will be different from last season’s team that made the NBL’s grand finale possible. Trainer Will Weaver joined NBA club Houston Rockets as an assistant trainer. Star importer Jae’Sean Tate has also signed a deal with the Rockets while veteran guard Kevin Lisch has retired.

With the Olympics approaching, 36-year-old Bogut could keep playing, hoping to help the boomers get their first medal at Olympics or World Championships.

An NBA return appears to be difficult for Bogut as the late US season that ended on Jan.. December AEDT begins, not ending with the final until the end of July, just like the Olympics are set to begin, which could preclude a game in either country from competitions depending on entry / quarantine requirements for Olympic athletes.

United has signed a major deal for the next season with former NZ Breakers importer Scotty Hopson. Hopson was nominated for the league’s MVP award averaging 19. 1 point per game last season.

« It’s a big commitment and we believe he has exactly the qualities we need for this position, » said United manager Dean Vickerman.

« He has a fantastic tool belt and so many different qualities he can draw on to win. He can shoot the three down, take you off the rebound, and is a high-level assistant, not to mention he’s a legitimate seamstress. « Games.

« He’s just a great competitor. That aggression combined with his well-rounded game means we believe he will be able to influence the games and really grow this team.

« We’re going to be spot on this season – this squad is going to be very competitive on both ends of the floor. «

The NBL is also hoping to announce its season schedule for this week, which has been delayed several times due to uncertainty over COVID-19 and whether viewers can attend home games.
