Neil Robertson won in a magnificent battle with Mark Selby to reach the Champion of Champions final on Friday in Milton Keynes

After a barrage of power points from the two competitors, the pair could not be separated and a decisive framework was needed to settle the fight

There has never been more than a framing difference between them throughout an exciting affair that has boasted six century breaks – three compiled each

In fact, all of the eleven frames except one featured a break of at least 50 as the former world champions traded heavy blows

Season opening European Masters winner Selby led four times in the first half of the affair, scoring 131 and 137 to move 4-3 ahead of the defending champion

In the eighth image, Robertson restored parity for the fourth time with a total play of 141 for the mark – the event’s highest break to date

The 38-year-old added a 121 in the next frame to get ahead for the first time, but Selby typically hit back with a second 137 to force the final into a shootout

After six tons in seven frames between them, the conclusion was a bit more cautious, but with the help of a few cherry bites, Robertson came in to contribute a 54 pivot and move on to Sunday’s decision maker title.

It was a tremendous showdown between two of the game’s all-time greats, and it once again underscored Champion of Champions status as one of the best events on the calendar

Year after year, the tournament offers memorable matches to rank in the classic fixture bank, and while there was no crowds this week, the 2020 edition was no different

Another exciting match is ahead on Saturday when the second semi-final between world number one Judd Trump and Northern Ireland Mark Allen takes place

A win for either will repeat a former Champion of Champions final with Neil Robertson, who beat Allen to his first glory in 2015 and Trump to another success twelve months ago
