Whitby MP Ryan Turnbull announced today on behalf of Canadian Minister of Natural Resources Seamus O’Regan an investment of over 296. US $ 000 to Durham Township to install 60 Electric Vehicle (EV) connectors This will encourage the widespread adoption of electric vehicles and provide more fee options for residents of the Durham area.

Federal funding comes through Natural Resources Canada’s Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP), which supports the federal government’s ambitious goal that all new passenger vehicles sold in Canada will be emission-free by 2040. It also builds on recent commitments made in the Speech from the Throne to make zero-emission vehicles more affordable while investing in more charging points across the country.

The government has allocated over $ 300 million to help build a network of coast-to-coast fast chargers and charge in localized areas such as homes, streets and workplaces. These funds will also be used to set up natural gas filling stations along important freight corridors as well as hydrogen filling stations in urban areas. The infrastructure resulting from these investments will ensure that people can drive and charge their vehicles across Canada. It also supports the demonstration of next generation charging technologies and the development of activation codes and standards.

The government continues to support green infrastructure projects that will create good jobs, fuel Canada’s green future and help us achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

“We’re giving Canadians greener options to get where they need to go. This is how we will get to zero by 2050. ”

“Investing in green infrastructure like EV charging stations across the Durham area is an effective way of promoting the widespread adoption of zero-emission vehicles and reducing pollution. We are committed to supporting innovative projects that provide Canadians with better access to cleaner travel options where they live, work and play. ”

“These 60 new EV charging ports demonstrate Durham Region’s commitment to leading the technology and workplaces of the future. Greener options stimulate economic growth and create jobs in our community. The Durham area has taken important steps to accelerate the transition to a low carbon, climate resilient community. We are working with our partners in the public and private sectors to make the transition to electric vehicles and the reduction of CO2 emissions easier. ”
