West Coast star Nic Naitanui completed a fairytale comeback after his second knee reconstruction by being selected tonight as the All-Australian ruckman
Naitanui was named best ruckman of the match in his first full season since his second knee reconstruction
There were initially fears that the athletic tall man might not be able to capture the heights that have seen a reel of human highlights become, but he has derided those predictions this year by tearing up teams apart.
Naitanui placed fourth in the league in eliminations and led the other ruckmen in center clearances, overall clearances and achieved his exploits despite spending only 69% of the time in the field
This was the second time Naitanui was selected for the All-Australian squad and the third time he was part of the 40-man squad His previous selection in the team of the year dates back to 2012
Naitanui underwent his first knee reconstruction on the eve of the 2016 final series and missed the entire 2017 season Then he injured his other knee in the 17th round 2018 and it cost him the chance to play as premier of the west coast
He only managed three games last year before a serious ankle injury sidelined him for the last six games, but he returned for the finals
« When you look at some of the players who have performed well this year – myself, Shep and Andrew Gaff also who was on the squad, we push all these boys back because we want to be part of that. this time, « said Naitanui
Often criticized for not winning enough ball and not taking notes, Naitanui has destroyed those arguments this season by reminding everyone that he is an impact player
His 11 scores in 16 games were barely mentioned as his strikes to the advantage gave the Eagles midfielders the freedom to go wild Naitanui also led all the ruckmen during the 50s as he earned his own taps and moved the ball forward.
Now 30 years old and in great shape, Naitanui is at the height of his powers and hopes to make the West Coast a prime ministerial spot throughout the final
