Without a doubt, the biggest surfing news of this week was WSL announcing its plans to start the 2021 Championship Tour and its decision to hold its first-ever World Cup Finals final day in Lower Trestles. – CT scanning will begin very soon, early December, with Pipe Masters for Men, and Honolua Bay Women’s Complex.
– This is followed by two new American events, two men’s and women’s events at Sunset (late January) and Steamer Lane (early February).
– And then, after the rest of the tour’s season (which, yeah, we’ll see I think), the year will culminate in a finals-type event in September at Lower Trestles.
Of course, with the challenges facing WSL in the world of Covid, there have been kinks in the plan, but it still leaves us, especially from an Australian perspective, with lots of questions.. Questions like, « Uh, then, why pregnant? Of any wave in the world, why Trestles? » And « Why does the American Leg run over a period of three months that includes the Australian Summer Vacation and Christmas? »
If it leaves you wondering where growing American sentiment is the World Surf League prioritizing Australian surfers on the tour in all of this, don’t worry, the clip below they launched to spark the Trestles event is a big old LOL: Behind the early 2000s The twenty Jackass Steve-O stars (how did they get it ?!) and directly in front of « Kevin » Clemente San (who sells the site for the most important event on the surfing calendar as « such a forgiving wave »). Unbelievable things!

You must love it when the gorgeous young surfing talent gets weird. There are enough surfers in the world, let’s mix them up with some completely incomprehensible musical montage elements to book this amazing surfing clip. Which is unbelievable. Noah Pishin has the written top ten of his future. But there are 60 more kids surfing. How many of them can also be outrageous and terrific?
Remember when that historic bulge exploded in one of Ireland’s cold-water regions overlooking Teahupo’o? And Connor Maguire installed it? Well, the world’s leading surfing podcast for Big Wave spoke to the team that made this important trip happen and broke down the amount of work that went into making history..
I haven’t seen some of the new Noa Dean shots in a while, and they’re cute when we get some. Plus, she gets a GOD song not « My Pal » and a Sonic Youth song on the soundtrack, the ripper. Dare I say, if Mallalieu comes of age as a filmmaker in the era of surfing video, his VHS tapes will wear out in VCRs across the country.
