World News – AU – Perth « 70 percent chance » for BBL games

Perth renewed hope to host a Big Bash League hub this summer, after the state government made key concessions to Cricket Australia regarding players’ quarantine requirements

CA would be keen to bring the Big Bash games to WA, upon confirmation the state will not host any international cricket this summer for the first time since the 1970s

Perth has two international standard venues, the Optus Stadium and the WACA Ground, available to host BBL matches

WA Cricket Association chief executive Christina Matthews said Perth’s odds of being in the BBL program had dropped from zero to « 70 percent » this week

« If you had asked me on Friday I wouldn’t have said no luck But there was a good move yesterday, » Matthews said

« So there was a bit of excitement around the office so we could have some games

« Cricket Australia had scheduled games here in the draft but they depended on government approvals and the relaxation of quarantine agreements which we didn’t think possible

« But there was some light yesterday By the government and somehow a little more flexibility with Cricket Australia as well I would go 70% for now »

CA released the revised schedule for this summer’s tour of India on Wednesday morning, with SCG and the Manuka Oval in Canberra to host six one-day internationals and Twenty20 between them

The four test matches will be played in Adelaide (December 17-21), Melbourne (December 26-30), Sydney (January 7-11) and Brisbane (January 15-19)

Matthews has confirmed that CA wanted to play both the ODI and Twenty20 series in Perth, if the players were allowed to train in quarantine

« For us it was a roller coaster At one point we were on the right track for the Indian team to land here and indeed have all the limited matches in Perth And indeed on hold if any of the test sites fall, ”she told 6PR

« This was not possible due to our quarantine arrangements But this is the world we live in

« We are walking around COVID free which is fantastic, but the downside is that there is no risk of losing these freedoms

« It’s been a very difficult time for everyone, but you can’t help but think that we are always the ones who miss it »
