A modder team has reworked StarCraft and StarCraft: Brood War as fully playable mods for StarCraft 2.

StarCraft 2 is an excellent addition to the StarCraft universe. It improves on the original in several ways, with better graphics, added game mechanics, and an expanded story. Oh, and it turns out you can actually play the original StarCraft and StarCraft: Brood War in it.

Thanks to some incredibly talented fans, you can now launch StarCraft 2 and step into a game from the original StarCraft. PCGamesN reports that it is a fully playable version of StarCraft and StarCraft: Brood War that includes all of the original dialogue and progression paths.

Best of all, it is completely free to download and play as a mod. All you need to play is a copy of StarCraft 2. You can even use the free Starter Edition if you’d rather not buy the game.

Project manager karlprojektorinski switched to SC2 Mapster with the latest version of StarCraft: Mass Recall. The latest version brings a lot of subtleties, like 59 maps from Brood War as well as others that have been lost over the years.

Since Blizzard has stopped development on StarCraft 2 while working on new iterations of the series, this is a great stopgap solution. StarCraft has been around for a decade and it’s very popular with the community.

Blizzard actually released a revised version of the original game as StarCraft: Remastered three years ago. But seeing the whole game and redoing more in StarCraft 2 is really something to see. If you’re looking to get into the series, this is a great place to start.
