World News – AU – ‘Positive news’ on local COVID-19 cases, but NSW Premier expects number to increase

Ms Berejiklian also said the state is unlikely to reopen the Victoria area as this would give Victorians more freedoms in New South Wales than their home state

New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian said she had had good news regarding the three locally acquired COVID-19 cases as the Queensland border reopened continued at risk

New South Wales will have at least three cases of community transmission included in Thursday’s figures after their first report on Wednesday, but the PM has said that number will likely increase

Ms Berejiklian also said the state is unlikely to reopen in the Victoria area as this would give the Victorians more freedoms in New South Wales than in their home state

« The Victoria government has placed some restrictions on its own citizens in the Victoria area and it would be a bit inconsistent if we went further than their own government has done in terms of what they are allowed to do « , said the Prime Minister ABC News breakfast Thursday morning

Ms Berejiklian said NSW health officials were not sure how many cases were occurring in the Victoria area

Victoria recorded 11 new cases in the last 24 hour notification period, including four new cases in the Victoria area, all of which had known sources

The locally acquired cases in New South Wales – two in South West Sydney and one in West Sydney – are still under investigation Wednesday evening, they were not linked to the to each other, and there was no connection between the new cases and the existing clusters

But Ms Berejiklian says NSW Health has made progress on the three mysterious cases that threaten to reset the clock at the Queensland border

« But I also predict that the number of cases in the community will increase today simply because, when you identify new people with the virus, often their families or people living in their households have not had enough time or notice to take action and often times you will find that they will get it as well, ”she said on Today

During her breakfast appearance at ABC News, Ms Berejiklian said she was unwilling to put unnecessary pressure on her state’s contact tracers to meet the 48-hour deadline to link the cases to known groups set by the Queensland government

« Sometimes it might take them a few hours, sometimes it might take them a few days I don’t want to put any extra pressure on unnecessarily They should be able to do their job, » she said

NSW Deputy Chief Medical Officer Jeremy McAnulty said authorities are still hoping to trace the source of three mysterious cases of coronavirus

Asked the Today show if he thought it was possible for NSW to record the 28 days without community transmission needed for Queensland to reopen its border, Dr McAnulty was not optimistic

“Look, this is hard,” he admitted “We have seen around the world where countries or jurisdictions think they are free from the virus and then because it’s a stealth virus it can pass unnoticed below the surface

« You can’t be sure it’s not there, and so we always assume it may be there. So don’t relax, don’t be complacent, go ahead and get tested »

On Wednesday evening, NSW Health called people who attended the Ripples restaurant in Milson’s Point on Saturday, October 3 from 8 p.m. to 1030 a.m. to self-isolate for 14 days and get tested. A case of COVID-19 s’ visited this restaurant, but details of several drop-in dinners were not recorded

People who had taken a Pilates class at Fitness First Carlingford on Saturday October 3 between 815 p.m. and 9:15 a.m. were also ordered to get tested immediately and self-isolate for 14 days regardless of test results
