Qatar Airways Cargo started the year with the delivery of three Boeing B777 freighters as the industry prepares for another year with tight capacities.
Qatar Airways Cargo now operates 24 of these aircraft models – two more have been ordered – as well as two B747-8F to further expand overall cargo capacity.
Delivery is at the start of global Covid-19 vaccination programs, which should put additional pressure on an already tight market due to the loss of much of the world’s abdominal strength capacity.
Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways Group, said: “With the arrival of these new freighters, we are adding more capacity to the market that is badly needed during the pandemic.
« The additional capacity will also enable us to support the logistics around the Covid-19 vaccination, which is expected to be one of the greatest logistical challenges for the industry.
“With our investments in innovation and the fleet, we can meet the logistical requirements of our customers and promote the continuity of global trade. ”
The airline has rapidly expanded its freighter fleet in recent years to become the world’s largest international air freight company. That goal was met in 2019 – although it still lags FedEx when considering the domestic volume.
Ihssane Mounir, Senior Vice President, Commercial Sales and Marketing at The Boeing Company, added, “During these challenging times, Qatar Airways Cargo has brought humanitarian aid and medical supplies to those in need and we are proud to see them grow A fleet of 777 freighters supports such a commendable effort.
“We deeply appreciate our long-standing partnership with Qatar Airways and their trust in the 777 Freighters as the backbone of their expanding global airfreight operation. ”
The 777 freighter can 9. Fly 200 km and carry a payload of just over 102 tons. The 777 freighter is now Boeing’s best-selling freighter. Customers from around the world have had 242 since the program began in 2005. 777 freighters ordered, including a record 45 units in 2018.
