Reporting on the impact of the coronavirus on the sports world

The highly anticipated game of revenge for Dez Bryant – a battle of the 13th. Week against the Dallas Cowboys – will not take place. While the game itself between the Dallas Cowboys and Baltimore Ravens will finally begin after being postponed three times due to the COVID-19 outbreak in its organization, Bryant himself will pause – shortly before kick-off, pulled out of the game.

Bryant announced on Twitter just half an hour before kick-off that he had been called from the field to be tested for COVID-19 while warming up at the M&T Bank Stadium, and the test came back positive. The 32-year-old must now be quarantined immediately and for the first time since his unexpected release after the 2017 season has no chance to face his beloved cowboys. His frustrations passed immediately and he is now threatening to end his season prematurely.

« Yeah, I’ll go ahead and call it over for the rest of the season, » he said. « I can not handle this. «

Owner Jerry Jones made it clear in advance of the Ravens contest that he was « a little concerned » about what Bryant might do between the lines against Dallas, noting how « that rascal can go off and get a ball » – just what Bryant was up to on Tuesday night. Bryant and Jones continue to have a positive relationship that was never broken by the decision to release him. The former often targeted former Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett instead.

For Jones, who still can’t bring himself to discuss the move publicly, there will always be a special bond between him and Bryant, and it goes both ways. But that’s out of bounds because in them, Bryant had more than enough motivation to show the Cowboys they’d passed too early on a player who received 838 yards and six touchdowns in his final season in North Texas. Bryant holds the Dallas franchise record for most TDs at 73, and his 74th. NFL touchdown now has to wait – as does his game of revenge against the Cowboys.

For the Ravens, an organization hoping to finally get away from the COVID-19 outbreak that sent shock waves through the league’s schedule, there’s now a new event fueling more pivots from the NFL front office could.
