World News – AU – Robbie Fowler wins false termination case against Brisbane Roar from A-League side

Australian club Brisbane Roar has been ordered by FIFA to pay Robbie Fowler compensation for terminating his contract as head coach without good cause, England striker attorney said Monday.

Fowler and his assistant Tony Grant went to England in March when the A-League season was suspended due to the novel coronavirus outbreak and his departure was announced « by mutual agreement » by the club in late June.

The great Liverpool man, unhappy that he was portrayed as having left the club, took an illegal dismissal action against the FIFA Player Status Committee in August.

The decision was « completely confirmed », Sydney lawyer Darren Kane told Reuters via email.

Fowler has since taken over the helm of SC East Bengal and the compensation will match his salary from the date Brisbane resigned until he signed a two-year deal with the Indian Super League club, Kane added.

Fowler told the Sydney Morning Herald that he would donate most of the compensation to a Brisbane-based children’s charity.

« It was never about money, it was about maintaining my reputation and letting everyone know the real truth – I never left because we were about to do really well, » he told the newspaper.

He led the club, which finished second last season, to fourth place in the A-League when games were suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak.
