Dan Tehan will take over as Minister of Commerce as part of a cabinet reshuffle announced by Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Friday.
The Prime Minister will also be putting new faces on his front bench, including former SAS Captain Andrew Hastie and Queenslander Amanda Stoker, to take on vice ministerial roles.
Mr. Tehan will take over the main trading portfolio and put the former diplomat at the forefront of repairing Australia’s relations with China. Alan Tudge is taking over Mr. Tehan’s former educational portfolio which is now combined with youth affairs.
In a bigger than expected move, Greg Hunt will receive the difficult Aged Care portfolio alongside his current healthcare portfolio. Tasmanian Senator Richard Colbeck retains responsibility for elderly care services, including delivery of home and home care packages and regulation of the sector.
“This is about bringing care for the elderly into the closet . . . Because of the seriousness of this problem, the scale and scope of the reform program that needs to be implemented according to the report of the royal commission, ”said Morrison.
