TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) – The holidays look a little different this year, but families are still finding ways to celebrate even when they’re not physically together. This year, many families are planning smaller gatherings for Thanksgiving.

« It seems to us that we have more people doing custom celebrations with smaller groups, » said Ashley Shick, communications director at Bashas’ Family of Stores.

With potentially more people having Thanksgiving dinner, Shick said Bashas saw turkey sales jump 20% year over year, and sales of their hot and serving dishes had doubled. She said large birds continue to sell, with the average turkey weighing 14 to 16 pounds.

« Plan for an expected increase in the number of gatherings and do our best to watch the market and ensure our customers have what they need to celebrate safely, » said Shick.

Instead of holding large gatherings and inviting loved ones home for Thanksgiving, many people invite family and friends for a Zoom call. Steve Page, the Wednesday, Nov.. . 25, 2020, plans to do just that.

« It’s a Zoom Thanksgiving Day with my wife and I down here, my brother in Colorado, and sisters in Washington state and Oregon, » Page said. “So we all stay in touch. ”

While the pandemic keeps them apart, this is a creative way to spend time together for vacation.

« It will be just me and my daughter and then tomorrow we will be making phone calls with the family who are not here, » Cobb said. « Tiny. We make a very small turkey breast and all the other ingredients. ”
