Taylor Adams has very first all-Australian blazer and very first Copeland Trophy to show for 2020 season
COLLINGWOOD star Taylor Adams celebrated his career best season by winning his first-ever Copeland Trophy as the club’s best and fairer on Tuesday night
Adams, who had already capped his stellar year with a first AFL All-Australian blazer in September, launched a blitz on the pitch to collect 100 votes and finish well ahead of captain Scott Pendlebury in second and defender Jack Crisp in third
Arriving at the club ahead of the 2014 season from Greater Western Sydney, Adams was elevated to vice-captain in 2017 and finished second in the Norm Smith medal for the 2018 grand final
But having recorded three top-five appearances over the past five years, Adams now has the best and fairest Collingwood to show for his contributions to the club where he has played 120 of his 151 career games.
This comes after a superb season in which Adams averaged 226 assignments, 54 tackles and 52 clearances per game to firmly strengthen his reputation as one of the team’s most important midfielders
This status was reflected in Adams’ latest lead in the Copeland Trophy tally, with Pendlebury somewhere behind his vice-captain with 71 votes Defensive trio Crisp (63 votes), Darcy Moore (62 votes) and Brayden Maynard (59 votes) round out the top five
Pendlebury’s second place was remarkably the 12th time in his 15 seasons at the club where the ultra-consistent skipper of the Magpies finished in the top three for best and fairest Collingwood
Elsewhere, no-contract duo Josh Daicos and Brody Mihocek were awarded in the top 10, the latter also receiving the Bob Rose award for best player of the final and the Gordon Coventry award for club’s top scorer
Well-improved defender Isaac Quaynor took home the Harry Collier Trophy as the club’s best young player, while influential frontman Jeremy Howe was recognized as the best clubman with the Darren Millane Perpetual Memorial Trophy
The Copeland Trophy is decided by each member of the coaching panel awarding up to 22 votes for each game, with no minimum number of votes for any player
