Plans for a new $ 75 million wave pool facility for development in Sydney have been approved to bring perfect waves to the port city 365 days a year.

Hills Shire Council approved development plans for the Wisemans Surf Lodge on the site of the Wisemans Ferry Retreat and Golf Club on the Hawkesbury River.

The site will contain a wave pool that can create waves with five stars up to two. 5 meters high for surfers of all levels, spread over two peaks in a pool the size of four stacked soccer fields.

« As surfers in Sydney, we don’t have year-round access to consistently high quality waves like in other parts of Australia, » said John Du Vernet, co-founder of Wisemans Surf Lodge.

‘What we are creating at Wisemans is a solution to access the types of waves that we would often have to travel overseas for, waves that we dream of. ‘

The pool will use wave generation technology from American company Surf Loch Wave Systems to perform 12-second rides at 17-second intervals in crystal blue water.

Said to be the world’s first surf lodge and Australia’s first resort-style surfing destination, the retreat is just an hour from the Sydney CBD or a 45-minute boat ride from Palm Beach.

The $ 75 million Hawkesbury River location brings perfect surfing to Sydney with a resort-style wave pool.

The Australian world champion surfers Joel Parkinson and Stephanie Gilmore supported the project together with the pros Jack Freestone, Alana Blanchard, Bede Durbidge and Josh Kerr.

Guests of the retreat get access to the pool, while surfers from outside the facility get access via membership.

But surfing isn’t all the 45 acre retreat will offer. The riverside complex includes a 9-hole golf course, 54 hotel suites, a restaurant, a bar and conference facilities in the beautiful bushland region.

« We focused on creating a space that thinks of everything outside of the pool, including non-surfers, in a resort-like facility in a magical and somewhat secret part of Sydney, » said Du Vernet.

Architect Kelvin Ho, best known for his work in designing venues in Merivale, is tasked with designing the lodge that gives a nostalgic nod to Australian surfing culture.

The complex will also include a 9-hole golf course, 54 hotel suites (artist impression shown), a restaurant and a bar

The site will utilize solar energy, natural water sources and green energy solutions and create post-COVID jobs for the local community.

Wisemans Surf Lodge will be one of two wave pools in Sydney that is linked to a new Urbnsurf facility in Olympic Park in Homebush.

Urbnsurf Melbourne is the first wave park in Australia and opened in early January.

The $ 30 million facility features a baseball field-shaped pool the size of the MCG and uses Wavegarden technology to create perfect surfing conditions in a safe and controlled environment.
