The body of a man on vacation from Victoria was found in a canal on the Gold Coast after the victim and a group of friends searched a Tuesday morning swim.
Police were called to the waterway near Sunshine Boulevard and Hooker Boulevard in Broadbeach Waters at around 5:00 am. At 30 o’clock according to reports, three people had entered the water and one had disappeared.

Within five minutes of calling the emergency services, the first police officer was submerged in the water. Surf lifesavers living nearby also raced to the scene with jet skis to join the search.
At around 9 a.m., police divers retrieved the body of the 21-year-old man from the canal near his disappearance. His other friends didn’t get in trouble.
Acting Superintendent Greg Baade said a member of the public called ambulance after seeing the victim had not reappeared on the canal.
The victim came to the Gold Coast on New Year’s Eve with ten other friends from Victoria who were helping with the search and were « very angry ». .
