World News – AU – Tickets for AFL Grand Final in Gabba sell out in 20 minutes

AFL’s first big latest adventure in Queensland got off to a good start after tickets for Saturday’s Prime Minister which went on general sale on Tuesday morning were captured within 20 minutes

This is the first time in more than 20 years that tickets for the Grand Final have gone on sale to the general public, after the MCG match was transferred to Gabba due to Victoria’s second wave of coronavirus

Members from Geelong and Richmond were given the option to purchase tickets on Monday, but that allowance was limited to fans of the cats and tigers already in Queensland or in states where travel to Brisbane is permitted

AFL said more tickets could become available Thursday due to any unused allowance Crowds at Gabba on Saturday will be capped at 30,000

The 2020 Grand Final is taking place outside of Victoria for the first time in the game’s history, and the second time in the past 75 years a VFL / AFL decision maker has been staged away from his traditional home of the MCG

In another experimental movement, the game will begin in the evening under the lights of Gabba, away from the traditional afternoon bounce

The AFL also announced on Tuesday that world tennis No.1 Ash Barty, a longtime Richmond fan, will present the Prime Minister’s Cup if the Tigers win. Former Geelong captain Ian Nankervis will stand stands ready if the Cats win

« I was surprised and very honored when [Richmond President] Peggy [O’Neal] asked me to present the cup, » said Queenslander Barty, who was in the stands for both finals Tigers at Metricon Stadium and the Gabba earlier this month

« I know many other people in Richmond would normally do this, but given the circumstances I am very grateful for this opportunity I wish the boys all the best for Saturday and I really hope I have the chance to be there when the mermaid goes to celebrate another Richmond first term «
