World News – AU – Tire Pressure Costs Holdsworth on Shootout Lap – Speedcafe

Tire pressure decision prevented Lee Holdsworth from saving his Friday qualifying performance in today’s Top 10 Shootout for Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000

The Truck Assist Racing driver set a blazing time on Friday to take provisional pole, earning himself the right to head into the shootout as the last rider

A change in conditions between Friday and Saturday resulted in more cloud cover and a stronger breeze, leading all racers to fine-tune their car setups to cope with it

In Holdsworth’s case, these changes did not deliver the expected performance and he moved from pole to sixth for tomorrow’s race

The car will line up fifth after Nick Percat wasted his time after being found two kilos of underweight after his lap

« The fronts never got in, so it was a bit of a fuss over what we did with the squeeze, » explained the Mustang pilot.

« I think we tricked them a little bit I pushed as hard as I could but the grip just wasn’t there »

Even though performance prevented him from replicating his performance on Friday, a third-place starting position is still positive

“From sixth place I saw people win from there so yeah we’ll continue tomorrow and see how we are,” Holdsworth said

« Listen, when you have this place all to yourself, you gotta try, » he added of his shootout

« She lit up pretty quickly there, and lost some momentum because of it

« (It’s a) bit of a shame, but hey, make it a crack, must have a crack »

Holdsworth will share the # 5 Ford Mustang with Michael Caruso in their second appearance together on the mountain

The last time the duo teamed up, Garry Rogers Motorsport teamed up for a podium at the 2009 Great Race

Tickford Racing will start tomorrow’s race with three of its four cars in the top 10, with Cam Waters and Will Davison on pole in the # 6 Monster Energy Mustang

James Courtney and Broc Feeney will share Boost Mobile’s entry, ninth on the grid, with the entry quartet completed by Jack Le Brocq and James Moffat in the Supercheap Auto Mustang in 15th

The 2020 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 starts at 11:00 am local time / AEDT, after a 20 minute warm-up starting at 8:30 am
