The Atlanta chief attorney resigned from his position Monday, the day after an audio recording was released in which President Donald Trump described him as a Never-Trumper. «  »
Byung J BJay Pak, appointed by Trump, announced in a press release that he was stepping down as a U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Georgia. The explanation didn’t say why Pak left or what he was going to do next.

During the roughly hour-long call, Trump made numerous false claims. Regarding investigations into his unsubstantiated allegations of electoral fraud, the president said, « You have your never-trumper US attorney there.

Pak was sworn in as a U. S.. . Attorney in the Northern District of Georgia in Atlanta in October 2017 after being appointed by Trump. Pak was a Republican lawmaker from 2011 to 2017, having previously served as Assistant U.. S.. . Attorney at law from 2002 to 2008 and had private practice at the time of his appointment.

When Pak’s nomination was announced, the White House announced that he and five other US attorney candidates share the president’s vision of making America safe again. ‘
A Justice Department spokesman on Monday did not immediately respond to questions about what sparked Pak’s sudden resignation or whether acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen had requested the departure.

Pak’s resignation comes almost a month after the departure of Charlie Peeler, who was named U by Trump in 2017. S.. . Attorney for the Macon-based Middle District of Georgia. Peeler resigned in December. 11, saying in a press release that he plans to return to a private practice with an Atlanta law firm.
