« It is clear that Hayden (Badon) was a little faster, but he had an unfortunate accident, which is unfortunate for him, but we took advantage..
“The pressure increased more and more when we got to the first eight, four, and second places. I just tried not to make mistakes.
“I was hoping to do a best of 32 then we reached the top 16 and kept moving forward. I couldn’t believe how fast.
With his first two rally events under his belt, Van Giesburgen said he was keen to have another crack.
“It’s great to see motorsports like this in New Zealand. There are a lot of good rally cars, AP4s, and everything.
« The crowd was jammed. It was so cool. They had as many people as allowed. It was really fun.
The one-day rally has had quite a few accidents, particularly that of top-ranked Hayden Badon who crashed into the top 8.
Second seed Sloan Cox was unable to reach the top eight while third seed Ian Fitch was unable to break through the top 16 on his first round by riding the BRM1000.
