There are no more mandatory rules on outside masks in Victoria as the NSW border reopens to the state ending months in exile.

As part of major changes that will take effect from midnight on Monday, Victorians will no longer need to wear masks outdoors unless they cannot safely physically distance themselves.

You must continue to wear masks indoors, including workplaces, supermarkets, and public transportation, and wear them at all times.

Melburnians have been required to wear face masks outside since mid-July. The edict was extended to regional Victoria in early August.

Other rule changes starting Monday will allow 15 home visitors per day, down from two, while the limit on outdoor public gatherings will increase to 50 people.

150 people can gather for weddings and funerals to celebrate or to express compassion.

The same limit applies to cinemas, galleries and museums. Major events can resume if approval is given.

Large restaurants, cafes and pubs can accommodate up to 150 customers indoors, while smaller venues are limited to 50 and must keep QR code records.

Prime Minister Daniel Andrews also outlined additional steps to normalcy, including up to 30 home visitors per day from Jan.. December – just in time for Christmas – and 25 percent of employees who are from 30. Return to work November.

Paul Guerra, General Manager of the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, described the office, hospitality and event announcements as great successes.

The latest changes in social restrictions were revealed when Victoria extended its series to 23 days without a new COVID-19 infection or death before NSW opened its state line.

After more than three months of police control and military guarding of checkpoints in NSW, the border closed at midnight on Monday.

The ACT will also be open to Victorians, while Tasmania and South Australia have already announced the reopening of the state in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, Victoria Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton is part of a litany of health department heads that will appear Monday when a parliamentary inquiry resumes into the state’s contact tracing system that struggled during its devastating second wave to deal with it.
