World news – AU – video showing the moment a meteor crashed over an ocean

. . The RV Investigator's research ship's live camera rarely captured a spectacular sight during its voyages - but last night it captured the moment a meteor lit up the southern Tasmanian sky.

. .

Onboard CSIRO Investigator Research Ship’s live camera operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, but rarely gets caught Cool event.

Just before 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, a ship’s crew about 100 kilometers south of Tasmania was treated at the scene of a meteor crashing over the ocean..

A bright flash of light that appeared green to the naked eye but was captured in black and white video, descended from space and unraveled before their eyes.

“What we saw in the review of live broadcast footage amazed us, the size and brightness of the meteorite was amazing,” he said.

“It was great to watch the footage and we were very fortunate to have captured it all on the live ship.

Glenn Nagel of CSIRO Astronomy and Space Sciences said that while more than 100 tons of natural space debris enters the Earth’s atmosphere every day, most of it flies over unpopulated areas, making this vision even more special.

« When a meteor enters the Earth’s atmosphere at high speed, the friction of the rocks with the atmosphere is what causes them to burn, as their kinetic energy is converted into other forms such as heat, light and sound.

“Many meteorites were once asteroids, traveling through space with their own path, but this changes as they pass near the Earth, where they can be affected by their gravity,” he said..

The crew of RV Investigator was conducting routine mapping of the sea floor and testing marine equipment when an unusual sight happened – one that they don’t think anyone else managed to capture..

“Cameras are everywhere, in our pockets and around our cities, but they have to be pointed at the right place at the right time and the RV Investigator is in that place and time,” Mr. Nagle said.
