World News – AU – Wallabies have teamed up with Wales and Fiji for the 2023 Rugby World Cup

The Wallabies ended up in Pool C alongside the Welsh and Fiji, while the last team in the pool won’t be known for a year before the tournament in November 2022.

Three-time winners and constant favorites New Zealand face hosts France in the pool stage but both teams will be confident of moving forward as third seed in the group after Italy landed when the draw took place on Monday.

Owner South Africa received a tough tie and is grouped with Ireland and Scotland, while 2019 runner-up England faces the potentially tricky double challenge of fast-growing Argentina and Japan.

The Pumas recently showed off some of the best forms in their history when they beat the All Blacks before tying the Wallabies twice in a row later this year.

The sowing for the RWC was routinely set after about three years. Given the COVID disruption of the international calendar, this time the organizers decided to use the leaderboard at the end of last year before the tournament.

As a result, Wales, beaten as semi-finalists in 2019 but currently ninth, were among the top four players while France, hosts and now fourth, entered the second division.

Scotland and Argentina would have been in the second ranking in the current ranking, but were moved to the third tier after failing to reach the knockout stage in 2019.

World champion South Africa entered the draw after not playing a single game since the 2019 final. Their win in Japan marked the first time a team won the competition after losing a pool game.

The All Blacks are the only team that has never lost a pool game. In 2011 they defeated France at that point, then again in the final.

The tournament, the 10. of sport, takes place from 8. September to 21. October in nine cities. The final will take place in Paris. France also hosted the 2007 Rugby World Cup.

The tournament consists of 20 teams drawn into four pools of five. Twelve nations have already qualified – they form the three best seed groups – while eight qualifiers are yet to be determined and will not be completed until November 2022.

« In 2023 it will be 12 years since we last made it to the finals, but this time it will be home for you [the team] to find a way to go to the [Webb-Ellis] Cup to win. «

The Wallabies have not won the tournament since 1999 when they beat France 35-12 in the final.

Since then they have finished second twice, losing the final to England in 2003 and New Zealand in 2015.

During the tournament, the All Blacks and Springboks will chase their fourth title, the Wallabies their third and England their second.
