The sparkling first-degree model of Victorian batman Will Pucovski shows it’s test-ready, says Ian Chapple
Pucovski scored 255 unsuccessful points on his first round of Sheffield Shield Summer for Victoria as part of a record opener, supporting that performance by another major century – the sixth of his short career – against Western Australia
Speaking with Matt Klinsh on ABC Grandstand, former Australia captain Chappelle said the 22-year-old’s just-in-time move to the top of the standings, along with his exceptional form, made a compelling case
“What is this now? Six or seven first-order pods? This includes two double horns.” Chapel said: He’s ready.
“I don’t know who the opening was for Victoria In any case he must have agreed to it
Chappel said Burns – who has scored only 36 points in three rounds this season – means Bukowski was in the box seat for David Warner when the four-Test series begins against India on December 17 in Adelaide, Chappelle said
“Burns hasn’t done much rounds at all this summer, and it comes time to think with yourself,“ Okay, so where is Burns headed? “It probably isn’t really going anywhere, and it’s time to look at Pucovski.”
Bukowski was in line for his debut last summer, but withdrew from the team to face Pakistan « due to mental health issues »
In the week that a test student knocks himself out of selection due to mental health concerns and the teen is hailed as the « next big thing » « for Australian cricket, the pressure on young athletes is under the spotlight again, writes Richard Hinds.
With the coronavirus pandemic forcing players into the bubble environment, Chappelle indicated that officials will need to be aware of the players’ mental health over the course of what is expected to be an intense streak
“It was interesting to read [India’s captain] Virat Kohli’s comments on how to be careful in the future about the mental health of the players,” Chappell said
« It must be difficult for players because you need to relax every now and then and get away from cricket
“It’s going to be tough, and managers definitely need to be very careful about the mental health of the players”
Young cricket talent may be impressive, but Australian cricket pickers should always bear in mind the benefit of playing experienced activists, writes Richard Hinds
Chappelle did not stop at Bukowski, adding Mitch Swibson and Cameron Green in the mix from the back of the adorable shield shape
Swepson from Queensland has won 15 wickets so far in this Shield campaign, the most players in the competition
Australian batsman Cameron Green has scored 307 kicks so far in this campaign, with the highest score of 197
« I’d definitely like to see Bukowski play, and I’d like to see [Mitch] Swibson on the side at some point, and apparently Sydney’s test I think will be an opportunity for two flirtations.
“And Cameron Greene, if he keeps running at the first division level, I think I’d like to see him at some point get a match for Australia.
