WORLD NEWS – AU – Zooey Deschanel explained the iconic & bathing scene GET IT NOW

Zooey Deschanel says everyone's favorite bathing duet from Elf wasn't even around originally

. .

« It’s weird he’s out there, but you’re totally buying his intentions are pure and innocent.

That was the best Christmas song of 2003, thanks in large part to the gentle chemistry between the two main stars.. Especially when they performed in what is now the lovable duo. . . By mistake. While someone was taking a shower. Now that Zooey Deschanel has explained the iconic Elf shower scene where she and Will Ferrell sang together, you totally get it. I mean, you really liked the classic movie moment, but getting a behind-the-scenes glimpse of how it came out just adds to the charm.

You remember the introduction to John Favreau’s classic Christmas movie, Elf, I’m sure; Buddy the Elf (Will Ferrell) grew up in the Arctic believing he was just another of Santa’s elves raised by Papa Elf (played by Bob Newhart). When he discovers he’s a human being raised by the elves, he goes in search of his father in New York City and gets a job at Gimbles Toy Story.. This is where he meets Jovie, performed by Deschanel, an exhausted young woman who is unenthusiastic about the holidays and public singing..

But she doesn’t mind singing in the shower, as Paddy discovers one morning when he hears a lovely voice coming from the ladies’ bathroom. She sings « Baby, It’s Cold Outside » and Buddy joins her despite the fact that he’s not supposed to be there with her.. Fun ensues.

Deschanel recently told Entertainment Weekly that the shower scene, one of the film’s most iconic scenes, was not in the original script.. Added after director Favreau discovered she was a singer, “I remember John Favreau telling me that they were catering to whoever played the role.. One of the actresses they looked was good at skating. But I had a nightclub business at the time and I was doing a lot. They knew I was a singer, so they put this on to be my own thing to discover that I was good at it.

The scene runs despite the controversial quality of the song and the fact that Ferrell just got into the ladies’ locker room due to Buddy the Elf’s innocence, Deschanel told EW. « It’s funny because obviously everyone knows it’s not appropriate for you to walk in a girls’ bathroom when someone takes a shower, but it can be believed such an innocent troll. ». It’s weird that he’s out there, but you totally buy that his intentions are pure and innocent.

Deschanel went on to record several different versions of the song, including a duet with Leon Redbone for Elf’s music and one as part of He and He.

The song doesn’t necessarily hold up for everyone, due to its approval issues, but that shower scene? Sweet and weirdly funny every time.
