Finch traveled to New Zealand last month, where his place on the T20 team was really under threat less than a year before the World Cup in India.
On points of 1 and 12 in the first two T20 losses to The Black Caps seemed to have his last chance, at least outwardly.
After surviving an extremely tight lbw scream in the third game, the right-hander’s fate turned when he exploded and the series with 69, 79 * and 36 finished when Australia lost 3-2 overall.
But as The Weekend Australian reveals, Finch was essentially disabled, and the World Cup winner struck with shady eyes – especially the left.
The 34- Year old who had an exceptional average and hit rate at both ODIs (41.85) and T20 (38.45) had tried unsuccessfully to wear contact lenses when his eyesight deteriorated.
Now, after a couple of busy M onate at home, Finch went under the laser last week for surgery to correct his astigmatism.

During his horror run that resulted in his being dropped and then delisted from the IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore, Finch received the support of Australian selectors including George Bailey, who surprised many by saying that the underexposed captain would lead the team forward in the World Cup despite his worrying form.
« He’s got an excellent average, he’s the captain of this team and he’s going to be the captain of this team at the World Cup, « said Bailey.
Finch said The Weekend Australianit was helpful in gaining public support from national selectors, adding that he never doubted he would get back in shape at some point. » / p> « It’s never easy when you’re trying to lead the team and you’re not doing as well as you’d like. » But you always put the team first, « said Finch.
» I got the feeling that my captain was pretty good at that time and at the Big Bash. I would have loved to get more runs, but I never doubted that I would ever get runs again.
“T20 can be a brutal game at best, just the ability to take a step back and start my own game again to evaluate and go there with a clear mind. It was great to have the support of the selectors. “

On the back of the article, Lehmann, who trained Finch and Australia to World Cup glory in Melbourne in 2015, said that it was Finch’s « no excuses » attitude that partially made him one important leader in the national team.
