The German sixth Alexander Zverev showed a clinical performance to lure the American qualifier Maxime Cressy 7: 5: 6: 4: 6: 3 into the third round of the Australian Open on Wednesday in Melbourne.
The US Open finalist received a high percentage of the first services in and never seemed to lose control of his 23-year-old colleague during the final game of the evening event at the Rod Laver Arena.
Zverev hit six more winners than the 172 -headed Cressy with 11 unforced mistakes against his opponent’s 30 and broke the American’s serve once in the first two sets and twice in the third.
He converted his second match point when Cressy found the net on his return to arrange a meeting with the 32nd seeded Frenchman Adrian Mannarino, who previously defeated Miomir Kecmanovic from Serbia 6: 1, 6: 2, 6: 4.
