After MaCio Teague and the Baylor Bears felt comfortable in the spacious rooms of Lucas Oil Stadium, they looked like a team that could play for much higher stakes there in a few weeks.

Teague scored 22 Points and the bears with the best seeds shook off a sluggish start on Friday to score a 79-55 win over Hartford No. 16 in the NCAA tournament.

Baylor (23-2) opened his March Madness- Run in the same stadium where the Final Four will take place in the first week of April. All of this year’s tournament games will be played in quarterly venues in Indiana due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

In front of around 6,000 spectators who filled the south end of the Indianapolis Colts house, the Hawks (15-9) looked like they were part of a solid route to start the game. They faced Baylor’s top 3-point shooters in the country, snapping the most 50-50 balls, and even celebrating a power dunk from 6-foot-9 Hunter Marks to kick off a 4-0 mini run who gave them a one-point lead on the 8-minute timeout.

Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua had two slams of his own for a 3 from Adam Flagler to give Baylor a six point lead. Baylor ran away from there, building the advantage over a routine second half to 29.

First, were you over the stagnation that set in after a three-week hiatus from COVID-19 in February? They went 4-2 over that distance after winning their first 18. Answer: Looks like it.

And then the perennial question of whether they can offer a far more comprehensive background than a regular arena in a football stadium that is divided in half by a curtain due to the COVID-19 protocols. Answer there: Well, at least enough tact to beat the America East champions.

The team that shot 41.8% of 3 over the course of the season scored 33% in the first round. Her top shooter, Jared Butler, only made 1 out of 8 from a distance and finished with 13 points. But Teague went 4 for 8 out of 3, Davion Mitchell scored 12 points, and the Bears did what 1s to 16s did – slowly overwhelming them with waves of talent.

Let the record state that Hartford’s D.J. Mitchell played in the NCAA tournament. For a total of 16 seconds. The start guard crashed violently on the first game of the game after Baylors Mark Vital hit him when Mitchell shot a 3. Mitchell hobbled away and the coaches checked his left ankle. He watched the rest of the first half from the ground next to Hartford’s bench and didn’t return to the game.

Some of the loudest reactions came as fans watched the big screen as Oral Roberts delighted in Ohio’s second largest state. But the in-game timeout that came before them ended and the video was switched to live action, causing boos throughout the cavernous stadium. Another timeout moments later allowed fans to see the end.

The Hawks saw their five-game winning streak fall off and made their way home from the first tournament appearance in school history.
