World news – Ben Simmons, 76, hold back Stephen Curry-less warriors in victory

While Philadelphia lost a commanding lead, it defeated the Golden State Warriors 108-98 in Tuesday’s showdown at the Chase Center. Tobias Harris and Ben Simmons led the winners who, with their third straight win, improved to 31-13 and 9-1 in their last 10.

An impressive performance from Kelly Oubre Jr. handed the Stephen Curry -less Warriors, who fell to 22-22 with a second straight loss.

Philadelphia came on Tuesday with a 4-1 record since Embiid’s injury, and the formula was pretty simple.

Harris was the top scorer in four of these competitions with Simmons handing out assists and Dwight Howard controlling the boards from the bench. It looked like it was more the same against the Warriors as the Sixers dominated the first quarter alone by building a 24-point lead.

Golden State had no answer to Simmon’s ability to drive down the alley and in transition get out, Harris double-doubled at halftime and Tony Bradley set the tone. Throw a couple of three-points from Danny Green and Furkan Korkmaz and a spark from Shake Milton off the bench, and the game was over early.

Bradley’s 12 points equals the most points he has ever scored in any half of his career (3/11 at CHI).

Harris had 11 rebels, the second highest in a half of his career. Eleventh doubles of the season.

The offensive of the 76ers stagnated completely when it was exceeded with 40: 21 points. Any positive signs that the visitors showed from the gates without their star disappeared quickly as they tried to generate the frank looks they had while checking the start.

The turning point was also evidence of the ability of the warriors to prevent Philadelphia from getting off on a transition where Simmons is so dangerous, but it was still unsettling to see from number 1 in the east against a curry-free bunch.

Fortunately for the 76s they finished a 22-6 run in crunch time, with Simmons, Harris and Milton scoring or assisting 18 of those points. While they certainly would have preferred a drama-less finish, knowing that players outside of Embiid won the game in the key moments leading up to the playoff time, when the opposition paid much of their attention to the Big man’s slowdown will be addressed.

Before Tuesday’s game, head coach Steve Kerr told reporters that an MRI had found inflammation in Curry’s tailbone. The two-time MVP is re-rated in a week and misses a handful of games. That leaves a team that can do without Klay Thompson still understaffed.

That means players like Andrew Wiggins, who scored 40 points in Friday’s win against the Memphis Grizzlies, and Jordan Poole, who scored in the last three Playing together scored 74 points, will be differentiators in the near future.

You must have missed the memo at the beginning as Poole, Wiggins and Draymond Green combined 4 out of 20 in the first half ( 20 percent) were off the field.

Everything changed in the third quarter when Oubre took over for longer distances, Wiggins scored consecutive threesomes, Poole improved his efficiency by reaching the free-throw line, and Damion Lee did what he did was able to keep his team on strike distance in the first half, added critical insult from the bench.

While Green played the role of point forward, the offensive in the second half ran largely through Oubre. His aggression helped swing the momentum, and his rebound also helped create additional possessions.

However, the offense came when it mattered most when Golden State scored an ugly 13 points in the fourth quarter, without Curry lying on the floor to play the role of closer.

Both teams will be on the road on Thursday when the 76ers face the Los Angeles Lakers and the Warriors play the Sacramento Kings.
