The late former Prime Minister Bob Hawke will have a federal seat named after him as the election guard redefines the country’s electoral borders to cope with population changes.
Western Australia will lose the seat of Stirling, north of Perth , held by Vince Connelly, a liberal backbencher, and raise the state’s number to 15, the Australian Electoral Commission confirmed on Friday.
According to AEC recommendations, which can be publicly commented, voters will be in the seat distributed to the expanded neighboring seats of Cowan, Curtin, Moore and Perth.
Election Commissioner Tom Rogers said the boundaries of all but nine existing seats in Victoria would be increased – in some cases significantly – with the addition of Hawke and the renaming of one Change seat.
It was recommended to change the seat of Corangamite to Tucker, named after Margaret Tucker – a Yorta Yorta woman, founder of Australi to Aboriginal League and first Aboriginal woman to join the Commonwealth Department of Aboriginal Affairs in 1968.

One of the options in WA had been to abolish Attorney General Christian Porter’s seat in Pearce, but he was spared.
Pearce had the highest voter enrollment growth at 26.4 percent and was the only WA seat required to lose voters in the redistribution.
The objections to the proposed seat changes in WA and Victorian style will also be closed on April 16. The final decision is due in August.
The base for naming Canning’s WA headquarters will be expanded to recognize Sadie Miriam Canning for her work to improve indigenous and rural health care in the state.
In WA Major changes were required as 11 of the existing 16 seats were out of voting, Rogers said.
